HVAC and refrigeration in Squamish

Colder than the coast proper, windier than anywhere else we work, and building fast. Heat pumps, mini-splits and walk-in refrigeration in Squamish, with heating and refrigeration failures covered on the 24/7 line.

Squamish is not Vancouver, mechanically

Advice written for Vancouver does not transfer cleanly up the Sea to Sky, and this is the one place in our coverage where that genuinely matters.

It gets colder. Squamish runs colder than the coast through the heating season. A heat pump still makes sense here, but the design temperature is different and the backup heat has more work to do. A system specified off Vancouver numbers will leave you short on the days you most need it.

The wind is a design input. Squamish is one of the windiest places in the province, and that is not trivia when you are mounting an outdoor unit. Exposure affects defrost behaviour, debris, and how securely equipment needs to be fixed down.

Much of the housing is new. Newer construction means better-sealed envelopes and genuinely lower heating loads. The practical consequence is that oversizing is even easier to do here — a well-built new Squamish home needs far less capacity than its floor area suggests.

Snow matters. Outdoor units need to sit high enough to stay clear of accumulated snow and to drain during defrost without building an ice pad underneath themselves.

Things that come up here more than elsewhere

  • Colder design temperature

Backup heat and cold-climate capability carry more weight here than they do an hour down the highway.

  • Wind exposure

Mounting, fixing and sheltering the outdoor unit are real decisions, not afterthoughts.

  • Snow clearance

Units need to sit above the snow line and drain properly during defrost, or they build an ice pad under themselves.

  • Tight new-build envelopes

Low heating loads, and an easy place to be sold far more capacity than the house will ever use.

Downtown, the business park and the highway

Squamish's restaurants, cafés, grocers and light industrial units all run refrigeration, and being an hour from the city makes reliable service worth more, not less.

We cover walk-in coolers and freezers, condensing units and compressors, evaporators, defrost faults, door and gasket repairs, controls and monitoring, plus the heating and cooling plant for the space itself.

Questions Squamish callers ask

Do heat pumps actually work in Squamish winters?

Yes, with the right equipment and properly sized backup heat. Cold-climate units keep producing useful heat well below freezing. What matters is that the system is specified for Squamish rather than copied from a Vancouver job. How heat pumps behave in the cold.

My new house barely needs heating. What size do I need?

Less than you would guess, and that is a good thing. Modern construction has genuinely low heating loads, and an oversized heat pump short cycles and performs worse. Our sizing tool has a high-performance band for exactly this.

Do you really come up to Squamish?
